VENEZUELA – A VICTORY!

CARACAS 30th APRIL 2019: THE PEOPLE SUPPORT MASSIVELY THE PRESIDENT NICOLAS MADURO IN THE TEETH OF THE STATE COUP LED BY THE UNITED STATES AND SUPPORTED BY THE PRIVATE NEWS-FEED IN VENEZUELA AND INTERNATIONALLY.

The extreme right-wing billionaire Leopoldo Lopez [..] failed to break the civico-military union that Hugo Chavez had built.

A media image was immediately repeated ‘in loop’ the world over: “An armoured vehicle of the Venezuelan army had ploughed into the crowd” – never mind that it is the putschists who use such vehicles.

When  “common sense” gets swamped under layers of media hegemony, each journalist can climb somewhat higher up the branch of disinformation. Over the last 20 years, the existence of a virtual “Venezuela” has been created by series of closely targeted camera images.

There is a lesson here for the left of the whole world:

Do not expect anything other than disinformation from the medias as they have become. This goes for Venezuela as much as for the Gilets Jaunes or any battle for human emancipation. The aim is to legitimise State coups or the repression of the social movements.

Hence the urgency to pass from marketing electoralism over to political programmes: For the democratisation of property in the medias, the foundation of new schools of journalism, the creation of powerful networks of associative media, and new digital technologies more effective than the networks invented by the United States.

THE DEFENCE OF SOVEREIGNTY AND INSTITUTIONALITY IN VENEZUELA – The defence of national sovereignty and ‘institutionality’ in Venezuela is paramount to stop imperialist interference; it is decisive to prevent the imperialist occupation of Latin America. The presidential election of 28 July 2024 was not just any election; and it was not one more election either, after the thirty-one others that the Bolivarian government always won in accord with the constitutional rules (save for two when the right refused to recognise the election).
